On Friday, The Ralston Valley Mustangs faced the Chatfield Chargers in a battle between two of the state's top teams. Ralston Valley enjoyed a cozy 42-28 victory over Chatfield. The score was all tied up 21-21 at the break, but Ralston Valley was the (much) better team in the second half.
Ralston Valley's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Logan Madden, who threw for 229 yards and three touchdowns on only 16 passes. Ralston Valley also got a significant boost from Brady Weldon, who ran away from the competition to the tune of 130 yards.
Despite the loss, Chatfield still got an impressive performance from Jake Jones, who threw for 290 yards and two touchdowns, and also rushed for 110 yards and a touchdown on only 12 carries. Micah Lumpkin was another key contributor, picking up 159 receiving yards and a touchdown.
The win makes it two in a row for Ralston Valley and bumps their season record up to 8-2. They've been dominating during the matchups in that stretch too, as they've won by an average of 27.5 points. As for Chatfield, their defeat dropped their record down to 5-5.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Ralston Valley will square off against Arvada West at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday. Arvada West will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Colorado Rankings (they are ranked 32nd, while Ralston Valley is ranked fourth). As for Chatfield, they will head out on the road to face off against Columbine at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Columbine will be coming into the contest with an undefeated record on the line.
