Softball Recap: Hough Extends Road Winning Streak to Seven

After only one run in their last match, Hough made sure to put some runs up on the board against West Charlotte on Thursday. Hough blew past West Charlotte 16-0. The result was nothing new for the Huskies, who have now won five games by 11 runs or more so far this season.

Payton Elwell made a splash while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out seven batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits (and only one walk). She has been consistent : she hasn't given up more than two walks in five consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going a perfect 2-for-2 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI. That home run was her first of the season.

In other batting news, Maylee Stroupe was a standout: she scored three runs and stole a base while going 2-for-2. What's more, she posted three RBI, the most she's had since back in April of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Ashlyn Rogers, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 2-for-2.

Hough's win was their seventh straight on the road dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 7-2. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 15.1 runs over those games. As for West Charlotte, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 3-4.

Looking ahead, Hough will take on Mallard Creek at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. As for West Charlotte, a feisty cat fight will be fought as West Charlotte Lions duke it out with Berry Cardinals at 5:30 p.m. on Monday. Berry has struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 13.55 runs per game on average), something West Charlotte will no doubt try to take advantage of.
