The Weeki Wachee Hornets's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Wednesday after their third straight loss. They took a 30-18 hit to the loss column at the hands of Springstead. If Weeki Wachee hoped to take revenge for the 52-45 loss against they when the teams met, then they were left disappointed.
Weeki Wachee lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Marlee Schumacher, who scored three points along with eight rebounds and three blocks. The team also got some help courtesy of Joelys Rodriguez, who scored seven points along with three steals.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Springstead to victory, but perhaps none more so than J'ziyah Munford, who scored 15 points along with five steals. Munford hasn't dropped below two steals for 13 straight games. Samantha Suarez was another key contributor, scoring four points along with six rebounds and five assists.
Weeki Wachee has been struggling recently, as they've lost four of their last five matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 11-7 record this season. As for Springstead, the win was the tenth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 14-3.
Weeki Wachee won't have much time to rest: their next match is against Citrus at 5:00 p.m. on January 18th. Citrus will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Florida Rankings (they are ranked 545th, while Weeki Wachee is ranked 195th). As for Springstead, they will head out on the road to take on Nature Coast Tech at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. The timing isn't great for Nature Coast Tech: they have been struggling with four straight losses at home, while Springstead has snatched up four consecutive wins on the road.
