Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Bernalillo). They came out on top against the Taos Tigers by a score of 53-45 on Thursday. This was payback for the Spartans, who suffered a 47-44 defeat the last time these two teams met.
Bernalillo's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Rayann Downing, who posted 12 points and eight rebounds. That's the most points Downing has posted since back in November of 2024. Danielle Esquibel was another key player, going 6 of 8 on her way to 14 points.
Taos lost despite a true team effort on offense, the best among them being Jasmine Mondragon, who dropped a double-double on 16 points and 11 boards. Mondragon continues to improve, besting her previous point total in each of the last three games she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Julianna Flores, who put up 14 points and five rebounds.
Bernalillo's win ended a four-game drought on the road and puts them at 8-8. As for Taos, their loss was their third straight at home, which dropped their record down to 4-9.
Bernalillo will face off against Highland at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. As for Taos, they wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next match, a 54-50 defeat against Capital on the 11th.
