The Trico Pioneers lost against the Johnston City Indians back in December of 2023, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Thursday. Trico took a 50-33 bruising from Johnston City. Trico has not had much luck with Johnston City recently, as the team's come up short the last five times they've met.
Whitney Lovel and Taylor Cottom certainly did their best on Thursday to avoid the loss. Lovel scored 14 points, while Cottom dropped a double-double on ten points and 11 rebounds. Hazel Helmers was another key contributor, scoring four points along with six rebounds.
Trico has been struggling recently as they've lost ten of their last 13 matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 9-14 record this season. As for Johnston City, the victory (which was their sixth in a row) raised their record to 17-11.
Trico will look to defend their home court on Monday against Shawnee at 6:00 p.m. Shawnee comes in on a streak of failing to score more than 20 points in their last three games, a trend the squad is of course eager to reverse. Johnston City's road trip will continue as they head out to face Pope County at 1:00 p.m. on February 3rd. Pope County is on a nine-game streak of home wins, Johnston City a five-game streak of away wins -- so someone will have to leave a streak behind on the court.
