The North Mesquite Stallions will face off against the Newman Smith Trojans at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, these teams will really light up the scoreboard.
On Thursday, North Mesquite lost to Creekview on the road by a 59-43 margin. The Stallions have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
The loss doesn't tell the whole story though, as several players had good games. One of the most active was Terrance Collins, who rushed for 143 yards and three scores. The team also got some help courtesy of Julien Simpson, who rushed for 124 yards and one touchdown on only nine carries.
Meanwhile, Newman Smith got themselves on the board against Molina on Friday, but Molina never followed suit. They blew past the Jaguars, posting a 65-0 victory. The win continues a trend for the Trojans in their matchups with the Jaguars: they've now won five in a row.
North Mesquite better keep an eye on Axel Lofstrand. He was instrumental in Newman Smith's win, throwing for 147 yards and a pair of TDs on perfect 8-for-8 passing. What's more, Lofstrand posted two passing touchdowns, the most he's had since back in October of 2024.
Newman Smith didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off three passes before the game was over. The picks came courtesy of Elijah Harrison and Gabe Haesacae. Harrison got in on the action too, converting a pick into a touchdown.
The victory got Newman Smith back to even at 2-2. As for North Mesquite, their loss dropped their record down to 1-4.
Friday's contest might be decided on the ground. North Mesquite has been unstoppable on the ground this season, having averaged 232.2 rushing yards per game. However, it's not like Newman Smith struggles in that department as they've been averaging 167.2 rushing yards. There's a good chance Friday's matchup turns into a tough fight on the ground.
North Mesquite was dealt a bruising 48-13 defeat at the hands of Newman Smith in their previous meeting back in October of 2024. Will the Stallions have more luck at home instead of on the road? Come back here after the game to get an analysis of the match and other football content.
