The Jersey Panthers will venture away from home to square off against the Mascoutah Indians at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Jersey is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.8 runs per game this season.
Jersey is probably headed into the matchup with a chip on their shoulder considering Triad just ended the team's eight-game winning streak on Monday. They fell just short of the Knights by a score of 3-2.
Paxton Weirich spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned (and two unearned) runs on three hits and racked up ten Ks. She has been consistent: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in five consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Anna Kribs made the most of her time in the batter's box despite the final result and got on base in all three of her plate appearances with one home run.
Mascoutah came out on top against Civic Memorial on Monday thanks in part to the team's impressive five-run fifth inning. The Indians' pitchers stepped up to hand the Eagles a 10-0 shutout. The Indians might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won nine contests by six runs or more this season.
Jayce McLaurin made a big impact no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only one hit over four innings pitched. McLaurin was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with two stolen bases. Those two stolen bases gave her a new career-high.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Kinze Reese, who went 3-for-4 with two stolen bases, three RBI, and two runs. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in April of 2025. Another player making a difference was Bailey Seibert, who went 1-for-3 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI.
Mascoutah hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. The team has now struck out at least four batters in three consecutive games.
Jersey's defeat was their first in the conference, dropping their conference record down to 2-1 and their overall record down to 11-3. As for Mascoutah, their record is now 12-4.
Mascoutah's hitters will have their work cut out for them on Wednesday. Jersey has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 10.7 strikeouts per game. It's a different story for Mascoutah, though, as they've been averaging only 4.1 strikeouts. Will Jersey keep running through batters, or will the Indians buck the trend?
Jersey suffered a grim 7-1 defeat to Mascoutah in their previous matchup back in May of 2025. Can the Panthers avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
