IV Section I recap Sept. 26, 2012
Blue Ridge extended the longest winning streak in IV Section I this week by beating Holbrook, 54-0. The victory was the sixth in a row for the Yellow Jackets.
Monument Valley and Page played the most hotly contested game in the league this week, with Monument Valley eventually emerging with a 20-14 victory. Redmond Delmar threw for 219 yards and one touchdown in the win.
Show Low's dynamic duo of Colby Maxwell and Cody Tenney proved tough for Payson to stop, as they were the top passer and receiver in the league this week. Maxwell threw for 195 yards and three touchdowns and Tenney had 133 yards receiving. Bret VanWinkle helped Show Low's passing attack out by catching three balls for 42 yards.
James Martinez provided a threat through the air and on the ground as Winslow topped Chinle. He completed eight passes for 177 yards and two touchdowns and also ran for 58 yards. Martinez's favorite target this week was Henry Montiel, who caught four passes for 96 yards.
Shiloh Wallace was the most productive running back in the league this week. In 17 carries, he ran for 162 yards as Ganado topped the Longhorns. Teammate Micheas Pineda added to the ground attack by rushing for 47 yards.
Brandon Nez made the biggest impact on defense this week as the Mustangs defeated the Sand Devils. The 5-foot-5 junior recorded one fumble and racked up one sack.
Monument Valley's Delmar and Tasi Malala have formed a dynamic duo this season, leading IV Section I in both passing and receiving yards. Delmar has thrown for 1168 yards this season, while Malala, a 5-foot-11 receiver, has 21 catches for 440 yards. The Bulldogs' Kelly Wood leads the league in rushing yards with 726.
A big matchup in the league this week will be when Bryan Begay's team takes on Tuba City. The Mustangs are currently in second, while the Warriors are in seventh.
Blue Ridge led the league in scoring this week after putting up 54 points on the Roadrunners.
