Baseball Game Preview: Lake Stevens Vikings vs. Jackson Timberwolves

Lake Stevens and Jackson are an even 5-5 against one another since April of 2022, but likely not for long. The Vikings are taking a road trip to take on the Timberwolves at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (Lake Stevens 3.6, Jackson 2.8) so any runs scored will be well earned.

Jackson will challenge a team with plenty of momentum: Lake Stevens extended their winning streak to three on Friday. The Vikings skirted past Monroe 5-3. That's two games straight that the Vikings have won by exactly two runs.

Dylan Phinney looked comfortable as he pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than one hit in three consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Aspen Alexander was incredible, going 3-for-4 with one home run, four RBI, and two runs. Those four RBI gave him a new career-high. Julian Wilson was another key player, going 2-for-4 with three stolen bases and one RBI.

Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Jackson). They were the clear victors by a 13-7 margin over Bainbridge on Saturday. The result was nothing new for the Timberwolves, who have now won six games by six runs or more so far this season.

The team relied heavily on Ashton Bergman, who went 3-for-4 with two RBI and one run. Another player making a difference was Gavin Duckart, who got on base in two of his five plate appearances with one run and one RBI.

Lake Stevens' record now sits at 11-5. As for Jackson, their record is now 12-4.

Lake Stevens came out on top in a nail-biter against Jackson in their previous meeting on Thursday, sneaking past 9-7. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Vikings since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
