The Gray's Creek Bears will head out on the road to square off against the Douglas Byrd Eagles at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. The pair have had a bumpy ride up to this point with five consecutive losses for Gray's Creek and eight for the Eagles.
Last Tuesday, Gray's Creek came up short against the Falcons and fell 53-40. The loss unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Gray's Creek in their matchups with the Falcons: they've now lost eight in a row.
Meanwhile, Douglas Byrd ended up a good deal behind the Tigers on Tuesday and lost 46-32. While losing is never fun, Douglas Byrd can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 475th, while the Tigers are ranked 128th).
Even though the team lost, they still had their share of impressive performances. One of the best came from Jazmine Burns, who dropped a double-double on 16 points and ten rebounds. She hasn't dropped below two blocks for six straight games. Another player making a difference was Gemaiyia Johnson, who dropped a double-double on ten points and 11 rebounds.
Even though they lost, Douglas Byrd were working as a unit and finished the game with 12 assists. That's the most assists they've managed all season.
Gray's Creek's defeat was their fifth straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 3-12. Douglas Byrd's record now sits at 2-15.
Gray's Creek beat the Eagles 50-43 in their previous matchup back in January. One of the biggest obstacles the team faced in that game was Douglas Byrd's Shania McLucas, who scored 26 points. Now that she's got a second chance to win this matchup, will Gray's Creek still be able to contain McLucas? Check MaxPreps.com after the match to find out.
