The Hobbs Eagles's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Tuesday after their fourth straight loss. They fell 63-52 to Highland. While losing is never fun, Hobbs can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' New Mexico basketball rankings (they are ranked 41st, while Highland is ranked eighth).
Jesus Licon was his usual excellent self, scoring 33 points along with nine rebounds and six steals for Highland. The match was Licon's 12th in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Isai Herrera, who scored 17 points along with eight rebounds.
Hobbs' loss was their fifth straight on the road, which bumped their record down to 4-9. As for Highland, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won six of their last seven matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 10-2 record this season.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Hobbs' road trip will continue as they head out to face Manzano at 5:30 p.m. on January 10th. That game will pit two of the most dominant guards against one another: Donavan Rhodes and Abraham Pe?a. As for Highland, they will head out on the road to face off against Volcano Vista at 7:15 p.m. on Wednesday. Volcano Vista knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with flashy point totals in its past 12 matches -- so hopefully Highland likes a good challenge.
