Even though the Virginia City Muckers have not done well against the Mineral County Serpents recently (they were 2-7 in their previous nine matchups), they didn't let the past get in their way on Friday. Virginia City enjoyed a cozy 46-28 win over the Serpents. That result was just more of the same for these two, as Virginia City also won the last time the pair played back in January.
Virginia City found their leader in underclassman Kaiya Krum, who dropped a double-double on 14 points and 11 steals. Krum is trending in the right direction, as she's improved her point production for three games straight. The team also got some help courtesy of Tesla Turley, who scored 13 points.
Mineral County lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Jayona Kimmins, who scored eight points along with eight rebounds. Kimmins has been hot recently, having posted eight or more rebounds the last five times she's played. Jazmin Serrato was another key contributor, scoring seven points along with three steals.
Virginia City's win ended a four-game drought on the road and puts them at 6-19. As for Mineral County, they have traveled a rocky road recently having lost 11 of their last 12 games, which put a noticeable dent in their 3-15 record this season.
Coincidentally, the two teams will both be playing Coleville the next time they take the court. Mineral County will head out to face Coleville at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday, while Virginia City will head out to face them at 6:00 p.m. on Friday.
