Triton Central is 9-0 against Speedway since February of 2015, and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Thursday. The Triton Central Tigers will look to defend their home court against the Speedway Sparkplugs at 7:30 p.m. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Triton Central waltzed into Saturday's match with five straight wins but they left with six. They took their match at home with ease, bagging a 55-14 victory over Southwestern. Given Triton Central's advantage in MaxPreps' Indiana basketball rankings (they are ranked 110th, while Southwestern is ranked 389th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Triton Central relied on the efforts of Brooklyn Bailey, who dropped a double-double on 21 points and 11 rebounds, and Maryrose Felling, who scored 23 points along with eight assists and three steals. That makes it three consecutive games in which Felling has scored at least 25% of Triton Central's points. Another player making a difference was Hailey Harris, who scored seven points along with six rebounds.
Speedway meant business on Tuesday, getting buckets from all over the court against a Achaeans squad that has allowed just 24 points per contest. Speedway breezed by Herron at home to the tune of 60-20. With that win, Speedway brought their scoring average up to 50.5 points per game.
It was another big night for Alex DeLisle, who scored 18 points along with six rebounds and four steals. She has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last three times she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Macy DeLisle, who scored ten points along with five steals.
Triton Central pushed their record up to 7-2 with that win, which was their fourth straight at home. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 65.5 points per game. As for Speedway, the win makes it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 6-4.
Keep an eye on the arc in Thursday's game: Triton Central have been dynamite from deep this season, having nailed 41.6% of their threes per game. However, it's not like Speedway struggles in that department as they've only made 33.8% of their threes per game this season. Given Triton Central's sizeable advantage in that area, Speedway will need to find a way to close that gap.
Triton Central strolled past Speedway when the teams last played back in December of 2022 by a score of 35-19. Will Triton Central repeat their success, or does Speedway have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
