El Paso and Burges are an even 5-5 against one another since April of 2021, but likely not for long. The Tigers will be playing in front of their home fans against the Mustangs at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. El Paso has given up an average of 11.5 runs per game this season, but Friday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.
On Tuesday, El Paso came up short against Jefferson and fell 12-8.
Camila Caldera was cooking despite her team's loss, going 3-for-4 with two stolen bases, three RBI, and two runs. Another player making a difference was Renatta Gonzalez, who went 2-for-4 with two doubles, one run, and one RBI.
Meanwhile, after only two runs in their last matchup, Burges made sure to put some runs up on the board against Andress on Tuesday. The Mustangs put the hurt on the Eagles with a sharp 14-2 victory. The Mustangs might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won nine contests by six runs or more this season.
Annaliese Avina was a major factor no matter where she played. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run while striking out eight over five innings pitched. That's the most strikeouts she has posted since back in February. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with one triple and two RBI.
In other batting news, Breann Mendoza and Angelina Alvarez did most of the damage at the plate: Mendoza went 3-for-4 with four RBI, one run, and one double, while Alvarez went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI. Those four RBI gave Mendoza a new career-high. Yoselin Chavira was another key player, going 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, three runs, and one double.
Burges always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .529. They are 5-2 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.
Burges' win bumped their record up to 13-11. As for El Paso, they have been struggling recently as they've lost seven of their last nine games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 6-17 record this season.
Friday's matchup will be a test for both teams' pitchers. El Paso hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .312. However, it's not like Burges struggles in that department as they've averaged .399. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
El Paso beat Burges 5-2 in their previous meeting back in April of 2025. Do the Tigers have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Mustangs turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
