The St. Peter's Prep Marauders lost against the Bergen Catholic Crusaders back in October of 2022, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Friday. St. Peter's Prep was beaten by Bergen Catholic 37-7. The defeat unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for St. Peter's Prep in their matchups with Bergen Catholic: they've now lost five in a row.
Bergen Catholic can attribute much of their success to Kaj Sanders, who rushed for 116 yards and two touchdowns on only seven carries. Quincy Porter was another key contributor, picking up 81 receiving yards and two touchdowns.
St. Peter's Prep's defeat was their third straight at home (dating back to last season), which dropped their overall record down to 1-7. The slump could be explained by some tough opposition over that stretch, namely Bergen Catholic, St. Joseph Regional, and Delbarton. As for Bergen Catholic, the win (which was their fifth in a row) raised their record to 7-1.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. St. Peter's Prep will face off against Seton Hall Prep at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in New Jersey (Seton Hall Prep is ranked 25th, while St. Peter's Prep is ranked 36th). As for Bergen Catholic, they will head out on the road to face off against Paramus Catholic at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Paramus Catholic is coming into the matchup on a five-game losing streak.
