The Luling Eagles's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Tuesday after their fourth straight loss. They were outmatched by Nixon-Smiley at home and fell 58-23. The loss unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Luling in their matchups with Nixon-Smiley: they've now lost six in a row.
Nixon-Smiley was led to victory by Grace Gomez and Janaelyn White. Gomez scored 11 points along with nine steals, while White dropped a double-double on 14 points and 11 steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Gomez has scored all season. The team also got some help courtesy of Alize Davila, who scored nine points.
Luling has not been sharp recently, as they've lost eight of their last nine contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 3-18 record this season. As for Nixon-Smiley, the victory makes it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 8-22.
Luling will head out on the road to challenge Great Hearts Northern Oaks at 6:15 p.m. on Friday. Great Hearts Northern Oaks is on a four-game streak of home losses, Luling a six-game streak of away losses, but someone's luck is about to change. Nixon-Smiley will take on Randolph at 6:15 p.m. on Friday.
