Baseball Game Preview: Adams Cougars vs. Seagoville Dragons

The Adams Cougars are taking a road trip to challenge the Seagoville Dragons at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Adams has four straight victories, Seagoville has four straight losses), but none of that matters once you're on the field.

Adams lost a heartbreaker the last time they played Spruce, but it's fair to say they got their revenge given the result of Wednesday's game. Adams never let Spruce get on the board and left with a 10-0 win on Wednesday. The Cougars might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won five matches by six runs or more this season.

Adams got a great performance from Ethan Segovia as he didn't allow a single earned run while striking out seven over five innings pitched. Segovia has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in three consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Adams let Christian Rodriguez and Nick Ortiz run wild. Rodriguez got on base in three of his four plate appearances with two runs and one triple, while Ortiz scored two runs and stole a base while getting on base in all three of his plate appearances. Adams is 2-1 when Ortiz posts two or more runs, but 4-6 otherwise. The team also got some help courtesy of Justino Chavarria, who went 1-for-2 with one stolen base and two RBI.

Meanwhile, Seagoville came up short against Poteet on Friday, falling 13-3.

Adams' victory was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 6-7. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.7 runs over those games. As for Seagoville, their defeat dropped their record down to 1-9-1.

Everything went Adams' way against Seagoville in their previous meeting back in April of 2024, as Adams made off with an 8-0 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for Adams since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
