Basketball Recap: Hammond Morton Skates Past Gary West Side with Ease

Hammond Morton had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 28.5 points) and they went ahead and made it three on Friday. They breezed by the Gary West Side Cougars to the tune of 70-38. The Governors have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won eight games by 20 points or more this season.

Hammond Morton's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Chanteze Holland led the charge by going 13 of 26 en route to 30 points. What's more, Holland also racked up two assists, the most she's had since back in December of 2023. Another player making a difference was Kylah KP Patterson, who dropped a double-double on 17 points and ten rebounds.

Hammond Morton was working as a unit and finished the game with 18 assists. That's the most assists they've managed all season.

Hammond Morton is on a roll lately: they've won nine of their last ten matches, which provided a nice bump to their 12-2 record this season. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 71.0 points per game. As for Gary West Side, they are on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 1-7.

Coincidentally, Hammond Morton and Gary West Side will both be playing Bowman Academy the next time they take the court. Gary West Side will head out to face Bowman Academy at 7:00 p.m. on Friday, while Hammond Morton will host them at 6:00 p.m. on Saturday.
