The Desert Vista Thunder will head out to square off against the Flagstaff Eagles at 9:00 a.m. on Wednesday. Desert Vista will be looking to extend their current four-game winning streak.
Desert Vista saw some tournament action on Tuesday. They blew past Eastmark 11-2. Considering the Thunder have won five contests by more than five runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.
Kai Gotwalt and Carlos Lehman dominated on the mound. Gotwalt pitched four innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off three hits, while Lehman didn't allow a single earned run over four innings pitched. Lehman has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up a single earned run in three consecutive appearances.
At the plate, Desert Vista got a massive performance out of Seth Skinner, who went 2-for-3 with one home run, two runs, and one triple. The team also got some help courtesy of Anthony Renda, who went a perfect 4-for-4 with two runs, two doubles, and one RBI.
Desert Vista hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Eastmark struck out six times.
Meanwhile, Flagstaff and Mesquite finished up on equal footing with a 7-7 tie on Tuesday.
With that draw, Flagstaff's record moves to 4-2-1. As for Desert Vista, their record is now 9-1.
Fans could be in store for some top-tier slugging on Wednesday. Desert Vista hasn't had any problems when it comes to power this season, having averaged 0.6 home runs per game. However, it's not like Flagstaff struggles in that department as they've been averaging 0.9 home runs. With so much power on both teams, it'll be down to the pitchers to keep the mound locked down.
Everything went Desert Vista's way against Flagstaff when the teams last played last Saturday, as Desert Vista made off with an 8-0 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Thunder since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
