The South Mecklenburg Sabres are taking a road trip to challenge the Marvin Ridge Mavericks at 6:15 p.m. on Wednesday. South Mecklenburg is coming into the matchup on a six-game losing streak.
On Tuesday, South Mecklenburg came up short against Palisades and fell 3-1.
While South Mecklenburg ultimately came up short, they really made Palisades work, particularly in the fourth set. The final score came out to 25-19, 16-25, 25-22, 26-24.

Despite the loss, South Mecklenburg got top-tier performance from Phoenix Modie, who had 15 kills, ten blocks, seven aces, and four digs. Modie is on a roll when it comes to kills, as he's now had five or more in each of the last 13 games he's played dating back to last season. The team also got some help courtesy of Balen Spry, who had eight digs and five assists.
Meanwhile, Marvin Ridge earned a 3-1 victory over Legion Collegiate Academy on Tuesday. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Mavericks.
Marvin Ridge walked away with the win (and looked especially good in the first set). Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 25-14, 29-27, 22-25, 25-18.
Marvin Ridge's victory was their 15th straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 6-2. As for South Mecklenburg, their defeat dropped their record down to 4-7.
South Mecklenburg suffered a grim 3-0 defeat to Marvin Ridge in their previous meeting back in March of 2024. Can the Sabres avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
