Basketball Recap: Wes Fuqua's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Franklin Road Christian over Zion Christian Academy

Franklin Road Christian entered their contest against Zion Christian Academy on Tuesday without any home losses, but there's a first time for everything. The Franklin Road Christian Minutemen took an 80-73 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Zion Christian Academy Eagles. The Minutemen were not able to make up for their loss to the Eagles from their previous meeting back in January.

Franklin Road Christian lost despite a true team effort on offense, the best among them being Wes Fuqua, who almost dropped a double-double on 14 points and nine rebounds. Fuqua is also on a roll when it comes to steals, as he's now grabbed two or more in the last five games he's played. Connor Branch was another key player, going 8 for 16 on his way to 21 points in addition to five boards and three steals.

Even though they lost, Franklin Road Christian smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 17 offensive boards. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Zion Christian Academy only pulled down ten offensive rebounds.

Gabe Davenport continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines for Zion Christian Academy, going 23 of 43 on his way to 56 points along with seven rebounds and five steals. That makes it 13 consecutive games in which Davenport has scored at least a third of Zion Christian Academy's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Brady Woolf, who posted ten points and five rebounds.

Franklin Road Christian's defeat ended a three-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 8-1. As for Zion Christian Academy, their victory bumped their record up to 8-5.

Franklin Road Christian will be playing in front of their home fans against Franklin Christian Academy at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday. As for Zion Christian Academy, it'll be Battle of the Birds when the Zion Christian Academy Eagles challenge the Dickson Academy Falcons at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Zion Christian Academy is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 78.1 points per game this season.
