Randolph-Macon Academy is 1-9 against Wakefield School since January of 2019 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Thursday. The Randolph-Macon Academy Yellow Jackets will be playing in front of their home fans against the Wakefield School Fighting Owls at 5:30 p.m. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Randolph-Macon Academy came tearing into Tuesday's matchup with five straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 24.2 points) and they left with even more momentum. They blew past Quantico, posting a 77-27 victory on the road. Given Randolph-Macon Academy's advantage in MaxPreps' Virginia basketball rankings (they are ranked 126th, while Quantico is ranked 401st), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Randolph-Macon Academy had a senior duo take command as Chidera George dropped a double-double on 16 points and 15 rebounds and Bilal Kebbay scored 16 points along with eight steals and six rebounds. George is crushing the block category: he's posted at least two every time he's taken the court this season. Johnathan Doku was another key contributor, scoring eight points along with five assists and five rebounds.
Meanwhile, everything came up roses for Wakefield School at home against Fredericksburg Academy on Tuesday as the team secured a 55-16 victory.
Randolph-Macon Academy's victory was their tenth straight on the road dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 15-1. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 64.3 points per game. As for Wakefield School, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won 11 of their last 12 matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 13-3 record this season.
Randolph-Macon Academy strolled past Wakefield School in their previous meeting back in February of 2023 by a score of 49-34. Will Randolph-Macon Academy repeat their success, or does Wakefield School have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
