Eastern Wayne came into Monday's match looking for another win against Smithfield-Selma, but Karmen Cyrus wouldn't allow it. The Spartans put the hurt on the Warriors with a sharp 3-0 victory on Monday with plenty of help from Cyrus, who had 16 assists and seven aces. She has been hot recently, having posted two or more aces the last four times she's played.

Smithfield-Selma not only won, but also showed off some consistency: they kept Eastern Wayne between 14 and 16 points across their sets. The final score came out to 25-16, 25-16, 25-14.

The win made it two in a row for Smithfield-Selma and bumps their season record up to 2-5. As for Eastern Wayne, they are on a seven-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-3.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Smithfield-Selma will host South Garner at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. This will be the Spartans' first chance to prove their worth in the conference. As for Eastern Wayne, they will take on Wayne Preparatory Academy at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
