The Lennard Longhorns suffered their biggest loss since December 5, 2023 on Tuesday. They took a serious blow against Wharton, falling 54-20. While losing is never fun, Lennard can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 470th, while Wharton is ranked 88th).
Wharton's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Nina Green, who scored 13 points along with six rebounds and five steals. Emma Maggio was another key contributor, scoring nine points along with five steals.
Lennard bumped their record down to 3-10 with that loss, which was their third straight at home. Those losses could be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they only averaged 28.0 points per game. As for Wharton, their victory bumped their record up to 16-1.
Lennard won't have much time to rest: their next contest is against Plant City at 6:30 p.m. on January 17th. Hopefully Plant City focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 39 last Friday. Wharton won't have much time to rest: their next matchup is against Strawberry Crest at 6:30 p.m. on January 17th. Strawberry Crest and Wharton are at an even 4-4 over their past eight head-to-heads.
