Lyle/Pacelli is 9-1 against Houston since May of 2019 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Friday. The Athletics will be playing at home against the Hurricanes at 4:30 p.m. Lyle/Pacelli is coming into the match hot, having won their last seven games.
Lyle/Pacelli had to skate by with only a two-run margin when they last took the field, which might have inspired the 11-run drubbing they dealt Southland on Thursday. The Athletics blew past the Rebels 13-2. Considering the Athletics have won nine contests by more than seven runs this season, Thursday's blowout was nothing new.
Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Houston, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Tuesday. They had just enough and edged out Mabel-Canton 11-10 on Thursday. The win continues a trend for the Hurricanes in their matchups with the Cougars: they've now won four in a row.
Morgan Rohweder made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he struck out seven batters over 5.1 innings while giving up four earned (and six unearned) runs off seven hits (and only one walk). He also tossed a walk, which is notable because Houston is undefeated when he allows at most one walk, but 4-10 otherwise. Rohweder was even better at the plate, going 3-for-5 with one home run, three runs, and four RBI. That's the most runs he has posted since back in April.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Coltin Groth, who went 3-for-4 with three RBI, one stolen base, and one double. Those three RBI gave him a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Dawson Pedretti, who went 3-for-4 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run.
Houston always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .550. They are 3-1 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.
Lyle/Pacelli's victory was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 16-2. The home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 13.8 runs over those games. As for Houston, their victory bumped their record up to 7-10.
