The Monterey Plainsmen's's four-game losing streak came to an end on Friday. They simply couldn't be stopped as they easily beat Caprock 45-10 at home. Given Monterey's advantage in MaxPreps' Texas football rankings (they are ranked 235th, while Caprock is ranked 653rd), the result wasn't exactly an upset.
Monterey's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Jamarcus Smith, who rushed for 42 yards and two touchdowns. Another player making a difference was Dezmond Williams, who rushed for 128 yards.
Monterey's victory on Friday bumped their record up to 3-4. Caprock has been struggling this season, as they've lost seven of their first eight contests, which gives them a 1-7 record this season.
Monterey will head out on the road to face off against Lubbock-Cooper at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Lubbock-Cooper knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with flashy point totals in its past six contests -- so hopefully Monterey likes a good challenge. As for Caprock, they will be playing at home against Tascosa at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Tascosa is hoping to put an end to a four-game streak of away losses.
