6A Three Rivers recap Sept. 26, 2012
Lake Oswego extended the longest winning streak in 6A Three Rivers this week by beating Southridge, 28-21. This was the team's fourth consecutive win.
West Linn suffered a letdown when it was bounced from the state Top 25 this week after a 43-40 loss to South Salem. The Lions had been ranked 17th, but fell to 47 following the defeat.
Sam Stelk put up the best numbers through the air as Canby defeated Lincoln. He finished with six completions for 74 yards and two touchdowns. Stelk's favorite target this week was Austin Taylor, who caught two passes for 21 yards.
Mehayl Zarkoff made the biggest impact on defense this week as the Cougars beat the Cardinals. The 5-foot-11 senior grabbed two sacks.
Ryan Gilbert was the best wideout in the league this week as Clackamas fell to Reynolds. Gilbert racked up three receptions for 73 yards. Jocob Iverson helped Clackamas' passing attack out by catching three balls for 42 yards.
Dan Sherrell was the most productive running back in the league this week. In 25 carries, he ran for 207 yards as the Cavaliers fell to the Raiders. Teammate Dalon Hudson added to the ground attack by rushing for 12 yards.
Clackamas' offense has been unstoppable this season and the Cavaliers feature the season leaders in passing, rushing and receiving yards. Doonie Johnson has thrown for 776 yards and six touchdowns this season, while Erick Douglass has 25 catches for 261 yards. Sherrell leads the league in rushing with 605 yards.
A big matchup in the league this week will be when Lake Oswego takes on West Linn. As it stands, Steve Coury's team is in first, while Mike Fanger's team is in third.
There should be lots of points scored when Clackamas and Lakeridge face off this week. The top two offenses in the league, Joe Bushman's team comes in having scored 131 this season, while the Pacers have scored 162. The Cavaliers scored 19 points last week as they lost to Reynolds.
Oregon City was the team that gained the most ground in the standings this week, jumping from fourth to second in the league. The Pioneers vanquished Lakeridge 59-23 earlier in the week.
