Fairfield extended their losing streak to four on Friday, dropping them down to 7-16. They came up short against the Lakota East Thunderhawks, falling 8-2. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Thunderhawks this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 15-0 back in April.
Fairfield saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Jenna Peter, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with one RBI.
As for Lakota East, their record is now 20-5. Considering they have won 11 matchups by more than five runs this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.
On Lakota East's side, Kaleigh Crawford made a big impact no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out seven batters over seven innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off five hits (and only one walk). Crawford has been consistent for a while: she hasn't given up more than two walks in 17 consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with one triple, one run, and one RBI.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Maddie Offner, who went 2-for-4 with two runs, two RBI, and one double. Another player making a difference was Karli Damen, who went 1-for-3 with two runs, one double, and one RBI.
When Fairfield and Lakota East next hit the field, they'll be up against teams who recently just can't seem to lose. The Indians will try to stop Oak Hills' three-game winning streak when they meet at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. Meanwhile, Lakota East will face off against Hamilton and their six-game winning streak at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (the Thunderhawks 3.3, the Big Blue 3.8) so any runs scored will be well earned.
