The Hanover Hawks will head out to square off against the Glen Allen Jaguars at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Hanover will be strutting in after a win while Glen Allen will be coming in after a loss.
Glen Allen will face off against a team with plenty of momentum: Hanover extended their winning streak to three on Tuesday. The Hawks were the clear victors by a 14-0 margin over Varina. The result was nothing new for the Hawks, who have now won seven matches by eight runs or more so far this season.
Ashleigh Barnette made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, pitching two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Barnette was even better at the plate, going a perfect 3-for-3 with five RBI and one double.
In other batting news, Hanover let Kylie Towner and Kaycee Doughty run wild. Towner got on base in three of her four plate appearances with three runs and one double, while Doughty went 2-for-3 with two runs, two RBI, and one double. Brie Wheeler also deserves some recognition as she scored her first runs of the season.
Hanover was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .630. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their batting average total in four consecutive games.
Meanwhile, Glen Allen has relied on a stalwart pitchers averaging 3.5 runs allowed per game, but that average took a hit on Tuesday. They took an 11-7 hit to the loss column at the hands of Atlee. Jaguars fans who chose to attend the game sure picked the wrong one: it was the first time the team's lost against the Raiders since on Tuesday.
Ally Von Herbulis and Alison Via stepped up to the plate in a big way. Von Herbulis went 2-for-4 with two runs and one double, while Via went 2-for-4 with two RBI, one run, and one double. The team also got some help courtesy of Ila Goding, who went 1-for-4 with one triple and two RBI.
Hanover's record is now 10-7. As for Glen Allen, their defeat dropped their record down to 11-5.
Wednesday's contest will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Hanover hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .316. However, it's not like Glen Allen struggles in that department as they've averaged .328. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Hanover skirted past Glen Allen 3-2 in their previous meeting back in May of 2024. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Hawks since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
