The Spring Lions were the 64-62 winner over the Westfield Mustangs when they last played one another back in February of 2023, but their luck changed this time around. Spring opened the new year with a less-than-successful 39-35 loss to they on Saturday. It was the first time this season that they let down their fans at home.
Despite the loss, Spring still got an impressive performance from Cedric Richardson, who dropped a double-double on 14 points and ten rebounds. The match was Richardson's third in a row with at least ten points. Tadarius Wade was another key contributor, scoring three points along with nine rebounds and three blocks.
Spring's defeat ended a nine-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season and dropped them to 12-10. As for Westfield, the win (which was their fourth in a row) raised their record to 12-5.
Spring will head out on the road to face off against Nimitz at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Hopefully Nimitz focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 16 on Saturday. As for Westfield, they will look to defend their home court on Wednesday against MacArthur at 7:00 p.m. MacArthur will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Texas Rankings (they are ranked 1103rd, while Westfield is ranked 124th).
