The Londonderry Lancers are taking a road trip to face off against the Spaulding Red Raiders at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. Londonderry is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 9.3 runs per game this season.
Londonderry barely beat Merrimack the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Lancers were the clear victors by an 11-1 margin over the Tomahawks on Wednesday. The victory continues a trend for the Lancers in their matchups with the Tomahawks: they've now won eight in a row.
Brady Gillis tossed a big game, striking out six batters over five innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in three consecutive appearances.
At the plate, the team relied heavily on Brett Mckinnon, who went 2-for-3 with one home run, three runs, and one stolen base. Another player making a difference was Jet Jones, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with two RBI and one double.
Londonderry was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .483. That's the best batting average they've posted all season.
Meanwhile, Spaulding faced Winnacunnet in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Wednesday. The Red Raiders lost 11-5 to the Warriors. The Red Raiders have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Spaulding saw six different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Owen Nesbitt, who went 1-for-3 with two runs and one double. The Red Raiders are 2-1 when Nesbitt posts two or more runs, but 1-4-1 otherwise. Matt Gould also deserves some recognition as he got his first hit of the season.
Spaulding's loss dropped their record down to 3-5-1. As for Londonderry, they pushed their record up to 7-1-1 with the win, which was their third straight at home.
Spaulding's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Londonderry hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .331. It's a different story for Spaulding, though, as they've only averaged .249. Will they be able to contain Londonderry's hitters?
Londonderry beat Spaulding 4-0 in their previous matchup back in May of 2024. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Lancers since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
