Blacklick Valley has enjoyed a four-game homestand but will soon have to dust off their road jerseys. They will challenge the Shanksville Stonycreek Vikings at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Given that both teams suffered a loss in their last game, they both have a little extra motivation heading into this matchup.
Last Monday, it was a hard-fought matchup, but Blacklick Valley had to settle for a 49-47 defeat against Northern Cambria. Blacklick Valley has struggled against Northern Cambria recently, as their matchup on Monday was their fourth consecutive lost matchup.
The loss doesn't tell the whole story though, as several players had good games. One of the most active was Gino DiPaolo, who scored eight points along with five rebounds. Another player making a difference was Alex Reba, who scored nine points.
Meanwhile, Shanksville Stonycreek ended up a good deal behind Northern on Monday and lost 64-46. While losing is never fun, Shanksville Stonycreek can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps's basketball rankings in their respective home states (they are ranked 615th in Pennsylvania, while Northern is ranked 213th in Maryland).
Blacklick Valley's loss ended a five-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 13-8. As for Shanksville Stonycreek, their defeat dropped their record down to 9-9.
Blacklick Valley didn't have too much breathing room in their match against Shanksville Stonycreek in their previous matchup back in January, but they still walked away with a 48-44 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for Blacklick Valley since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
