Immokalee hasn't had much luck against Fort Myers recently, but that could start to change on Thursday. The Indians will head out to challenge the Green Wave at 7:00 p.m. Immokalee is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 8.3 runs per game this season.
Immokalee easily dispatched Dunbar on Thursday, but unfortunately both the margin and the ultimate result were a different story in this one. The Indians fell just short of LaBelle by a score of 9-7 on Friday. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest loss the Indians have suffered since March 19, 2024.
Madison Silguero and Sophia Silguero stepped up to the plate in a big way. Madison scored a run while going 2-for-4, while Sophia scored a run while going 2-for-3. Jaylynn Rodriguez was another key player, going 1-for-4 with one triple and two RBI.
Meanwhile, after only one run in their last match, Fort Myers made sure to put some runs up on the board against Naples on Tuesday. The Green Wave put the hurt on the Golden Eagles with a sharp 10-3 win. The result was nothing new for the Green Wave, who have now won eight games by seven runs or more so far this season.
Daciana Harvey made a splash while hitting and pitching. She tossed seven innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off four hits. Harvey was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run while getting on base in four of her five plate appearances.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Gianni Torres, who scored a run while going 2-for-4. The dominant performance also gave her a new career-high in doubles (two). Ta'Shydra Denson also deserves some recognition as she hit her first double of the season.
Fort Myers kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Naples only managed four hits.
Fort Myers is on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 13-5-1 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 4.0 runs on average over those games. As for Immokalee, their defeat dropped their record down to 7-9.
Both Immokalee and Fort Myers just can't seem to miss. The Indians have been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 11 hits per game. However, it's not like Fort Myers struggles in that department as they've been averaging only 5.4 hits. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Immokalee couldn't quite get it done against Fort Myers when the teams last played back in March of 2024 as they fell 8-3. Can the Indians avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
