The Brush Beetdiggers scored the most points they've had all season to find success on Wednesday. They took down Frontier Academy 73-58. The victory was some much needed relief for Brush as it spelled an end to their four-game losing streak.
Brush's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Edgar Ortiz led the charge by scoring 12 points along with five rebounds. Another player making a difference was Hunter Proctor, who scored 14 points along with three steals.
When it comes to explaining why Frontier Academy lost, one person who can't be blamed is Jackson Steward. Despite the final result, he dropped a double-double on 32 points and 11 rebounds. That was a full 55.2% of Frontier Academy's points, marking the eighth time in a row he's earned more than a third of the team's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Lucas Carmichael, who scored five points along with five rebounds and three steals.
Brush's win ended a six-game drought on the road dating back to last season and puts them at 2-10. As for Frontier Academy, their loss dropped their record down to 4-7.
Coincidentally, the pair will both be playing Timnath the next time they take the court. Frontier Academy will head out to face Timnath at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, while Brush will head out to face them at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
