Basketball Recap: Fremont Comes Up Short

Fremont lost against Oakland Tech back in February of 2024 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Wednesday. The Fremont Tigers fell 76-69 to the Oakland Tech Bulldogs. While losing is never fun, the Tigers can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 192nd, while the Bulldogs are ranked 46th).

Despite the loss, Fremont still got an impressive performance from Deyonte Spears, who almost dropped a double-double on 16 points and nine rebounds. Spears' evening made it three games in a row in which he has scored at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Tristan Jones, who went 5 of 10 on his way to 14 points and seven boards.

Even though they lost, Fremont smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 14 offensive rebounds. That's the most offensive boards they've managed all season.

Oakland Tech's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Xan Meyer-Plettner led the charge by dropping a double-double on 13 points and ten rebounds. Meyer-Plettner is on a roll when it comes to boards, as he's now pulled down eight or more in the last six games he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Ardarius Grayson, who posted 13 points in addition to eight assists and eight rebounds.

Fremont has traveled a rocky road recently having lost three of their last four contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 10-7 record this season. As for Oakland Tech, their win was their 18th straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 12-3.

Fremont didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next matchup, a 61-56 victory against McClymonds on the 10th. As for Oakland Tech, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next game, a 60-55 defeat against Weston Ranch on the 11th.
