Northeast Jones is 9-1 against Quitman since March of 2019 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Tuesday. A feisty cat fight will be fought as Northeast Jones Tigers take on Quitman Panthers at 7:00 p.m. Northeast Jones is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.9 runs per game this season.
Northeast Jones will bounce into Tuesday's match after beating Taylorsville, who they had gone 1-6 against in their seven prior meetings. Northeast Jones came out on top against Taylorsville by a score of 7-3 on Saturday.
Asher McBride spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered three earned runs on five hits. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than one walk in four consecutive appearances.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Kaden Padgett, who scored three runs and stole four bases while getting on base in all four of his plate appearances. He is becoming a predictor of Northeast Jones' success: when he posts at least two runs the team is undefeated (and 5-6-1 when he doesn't). Jax Sullins also deserves some recognition as he hit his first triple of the season.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Quitman). They put the hurt on Vicksburg with a sharp 22-9 win on Saturday. The result was nothing new for the Panthers, who have now won six contests by six runs or more so far this season.
Layken Herrington made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he tossed four innings while giving up just one earned (and eight unearned) runs off eight hits. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-high in strikeouts (four). He was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with three RBI and one stolen base.
In other batting news, Connor King was a standout: he scored three runs and stole four bases while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances. Those three runs gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Malik Davis, who scored two runs and stole three bases while going 3-for-4.
Quitman always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .694. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
The victory made it two in a row for Quitman and bumps their season record up to 10-8. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 15.5 runs over those games. As for Northeast Jones, their record is now 10-6-1.
Tuesday's game might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Northeast Jones has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .459. However, it's not like Quitman struggles in that department as they've averaged .465. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Northeast Jones took their victory against Quitman in their previous meeting back in March of 2024 by a conclusive 19-9. The rematch might be a little tougher for Northeast Jones since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
