Capital Prep and Amistad are an even 4-4 against one another since December of 2016, but not for long. The Capital Prep Trailblazers will be playing in front of their home fans against the Amistad Wolves at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. Capital Prep is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 53.2 points per game this season.
Capital Prep will bounce into Friday's game after beating Prince RVT, who they had gone 0-9 against in their nine prior meetings. Capital Prep walked away with a 64-55 win over Prince RVT on Wednesday. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Trailblazers.
Capital Prep found their leader in sophomore Syre Gillespie, who posted 32 points in addition to six rebounds and three steals. That makes it ten consecutive games in which Gillespie has scored at least a third of Capital Prep's points. Another player making a difference was Javaris Spencer, who dropped a double-double with 11 points and 15 boards.
Capital Prep smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 14 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive rebounds in ten consecutive contests.
Meanwhile, Amistad didn't have too much trouble with Hartford Public on Wednesday as they won 51-35.
Amistad's win came from a few key players Capital Prep will need to keep an eye on. One of the most notable was Eddie Edwards, who had 13 points along with seven rebounds and five steals. Amistad is 4-1 when Edwards posts five or more steals, but 4-9 otherwise. Miguel Chaparro was another key player, putting up 14 points.
Capital Prep's victory bumped their record up to 5-14. As for Amistad, their win bumped their record up to 8-10.
Rebounding is likely to be a big factor in this contest: Capital Prep has been smashing the glass this season, having averaged 35.8 boards per game. However, it's not like Amistad struggles in that department as they've been averaging 28.4 rebounds. With both teams battling to corral missed shots, we'll see if one team can grab an edge.
