The Ashley Screaming Eagle lost against the New Hanover Wildcats back in February of 2023, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Friday. Ashley had to suffer through a rough 62-33 loss at the hands of New Hanover. While losing is never fun, Ashley can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 316th, while New Hanover is ranked sixth).
Despite the loss, Ashley still got an impressive performance from Coen Locklear, who scored 24 points along with five rebounds. Locklear scored a full 72.7% of Ashley's points, the sixth time in a row he's earned more than a third of the team's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Quinn Bentley, who scored six points.
Leading New Hanover to victory were Nolan Billings and Rodmik Allen. Billings scored 20 points along with seven rebounds, while Allen dropped a double-double on 18 points and ten assists. The matchup was Allen's sixth in a row with at least ten points. Zeus Batts was another key contributor, scoring eight points along with five steals.
Ashley's defeat was their fifth straight at home, which bumped their record down to 3-9. As for New Hanover, the win for they keeps them at an undefeated 10-0.
Ashley will head out on the road to face off against West Brunswick at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. As for New Hanover, they will look to defend their home court on Tuesday against North Brunswick at 8:00 p.m. North Brunswick is also coming in off of a big victory, so somebody is in for a big reversal of fortune.
