The Hesston Swathers put another one in the bag on Tuesday to keep their perfect season alive. They claimed a resounding 65-21 victory over Smoky Valley on the road. Hesston might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team's won four contests by 22 points or more this season.
Hesston got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Adrian Hernandez out in front who scored 20 points along with eight rebounds. That's the first time this season that Hernandez pulled down eight or more rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Reed Friesen, who scored 19 points along with five rebounds and three steals.
Hesston's victory was their 11th straight on the road dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 5-0. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 59.2 points per game. As for Smoky Valley, they still haven't won a game yet this season and fell to 0-4.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Hesston will take on Sunrise Christian Academy Silver at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Sunrise Christian Academy Silver will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Kansas Rankings (they are ranked 112th, while Hesston is ranked 18th). As for Smoky Valley, they will head out on the road to face off against Halstead at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Halstead knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with flashy point totals in its past three matches -- so hopefully Smoky Valley likes a good challenge.
