The Socastee Braves fell on hard times earlier this season, but after back-to-back victories it seems like their luck might finally be changing. They rang in the new year with a 34-22 victory over Marion on Tuesday. That's another feather in the cap for Socastee, who also won these teams' last head-to-head.
Socastee's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Princess Collins, who scored nine points along with 18 rebounds. Those 18 rebounds set a new season-high mark for her. The team also got some help courtesy of Anna Reese Pratt, who scored seven points along with 17 rebounds and five blocks.
Several Swamp Foxes players turned in solid performances, despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Miracle Samuels, who scored six points. Shamya Mckelvy was another key contributor, scoring six points.
Socastee's win bumped their record up to 4-8. As for Marion, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 3-6.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Socastee won't have much time to rest: their next match is against Johnsonville at 6:00 p.m. on January 3rd. Johnsonville is still on the hunt for that elusive first 'W'. As for Marion, they will head out on the road to face off against Conway at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. That game will pit two of the most dominant guards against one another: Rebecca Hemingway and Jaeda Davis.
