Winning is just a little bit easier when you outrebound your opponent 13 to 2 on the offensive boards, a fact the West Point-Beemer Cadets proved on Monday. They came out on top in a nail-biter against Oakland-Craig and snuck past 42-40. The victory was all the more spectacular given West Point-Beemer's disadvantage in MaxPreps' Nebraska basketball rankings (they are ranked 104th, while the Knights are ranked 35th).
West Point-Beemer got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Campbell Snodgrass out in front who scored 16 points along with two steals. Snodgrass has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last three times she's played. Another player making a difference was Allie Kaup, who scored 13 points along with eight rebounds and two steals.
Several Knights players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Sonya Guzinski, who scored 11 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Bailey Pelan, who scored nine points along with five rebounds.
Oakland-Craig struggled to get the ball back on offense and finished the game with only two offensive rebounds. That's the fewest offensive rebounds they've managed all season.
West Point-Beemer has been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four matches, which provided a nice bump to their 9-8 record this season. As for Oakland-Craig, their defeat ended a four-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 11-4.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. West Point-Beemer will challenge the Dragons at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Oakland-Craig, they will head out on the road to take on the Patriots at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday. Hopefully Clarkson/Leigh focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up eight on Monday.
