The Glendora Tartans will head out to take on the Temple City Rams at 3:45 p.m. on Wednesday. Both come into the game bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Glendora was handed a heart-breaking two-run loss in their last matchup, but they sure didn't let that happen against Claremont on Thursday. Glendora blew past Claremont 8-2. Considering the Tartans have won six contests by more than five runs this season, Thursday's blowout was nothing new.
Gianna Messick spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned (and one unearned) run on six hits.
On the hitting side, Glendora got a big performance out of Kylie Coleman, who scored a run and stole a base while going 1-for-3. What's more, Coleman posted two RBI, the most she's had since back in April of 2024. Mia Reyes also deserves some recognition as she snagged her first stolen base of the season.
Meanwhile, the third road game was the charm for Temple City, as they earned their first away victory of the season. They came out on top in a nail-biter against Monrovia last Friday, sneaking past 7-6. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Rams have posted against the Wildcats since March 22, 2022.
Temple City let Mia Oberlander and Melinda Lansford run wild. Oberlander went 1-for-4 with one home run and three RBI, while Lansford scored a run while going 3-for-4. Taylor Thomas was another key player, scoring two runs while going 2-for-3.
Temple City kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least nine hits in four consecutive matchups.
Glendora is on a roll lately: they've won six of their last eight contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 8-5 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.5 runs on average over those games. The win got Temple City back to even at 5-5.
Glendora's speedy runners might be the difference in Wednesday's game. Glendora has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 3.4 stolen bases per game. It's a different story for Temple City, though, as they've been averaging only 1.3 stolen bases. Will they be able to secure the bases, or will Glendora continue to outrun the ball?
Everything went Glendora's way against Temple City in their previous meeting back in February of 2017, as Glendora made off with a 10-1 victory. Does Glendora have another victory up their sleeve, or will Temple City turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
