Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Carl Albert to victory, but perhaps none more so than Delijah Matthews, who rushed for 76 yards and two scores, and also threw for 42 yards and one TD. Matthews has been hot, having posted two or more rushing touchdowns the last seven times he's played. Another receiver making a difference was Jacson Webster, who picked up 78 receiving yards and a pair of touchdowns.
Special teams also played a big role in the game for Carl Albert, adding 15 points to the final score. The biggest highlight from special teams (and perhaps the team as a whole) came courtesy of Webster, who ran a punt back for a touchdown.
Meanwhile, McAlester entered their tilt with Collinsville on Friday with six consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with seven. They came within a single point of losing the streak, but they secured a 28-27 W against the Cardinals. The score was all tied up 7-7 at the break, but the Buffaloes were the better team in the second half.
Carl Albert better focus on containing Denver Durant and Jordan Clark as the pair were huge in McAlester's win. Durant picked up 105 receiving yards and one score, while Clark rushed for 56 yards and a pair of TDs. Kash Tidwell got in on the action too, converting a pick into a touchdown.
Carl Albert's win bumped their record up to 11-0. As for McAlester, their victory bumped their record up to 7-4.
Friday's contest might be decided on the ground. Carl Albert has been unstoppable on the ground this season, having averaged 232.9 rushing yards per game. However, it's not like McAlester struggles in that department as they've been averaging 148.8 rushing yards. There's a good chance Friday's matchup turns into a tough fight on the ground.
