Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Woodland). They were the clear victor by a 13-1 margin over the Pawnee Black Bears on Tuesday. The victory was a breath of fresh air for the Cougars as it put an end to their seven-game losing streak.
Trey Bennett made a splash while hitting and pitching. He struck out eight batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit (and not a single walk). Furthermore, he didn't allow a single walk, the first time he has blanked an opponent since back in April of 2024. He was also big at the plate, getting on base in all three of his plate appearances with one home run, two runs, and two RBI. Those RBI marked the first that he brought in this season.
In other batting news, Austin Wilson was a standout: he scored three runs and stole Two bases. while going 2-for-2. He has become a key player for Woodland: the team is 2-1 when he posts at least two stolen bases, but 0-6 otherwise. Patrick Freeman also deserves some recognition as he brought in his first RBI of the season.
