The New Prairie Cougars's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Thursday after their third straight loss. They were the victim of a tough 71-45 defeat at the hands of South Bend Riley. While losing is never fun, New Prairie can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Indiana basketball rankings (they are ranked 375th, while South Bend Riley is ranked 21st).
New Prairie's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Reece Lapczynski, who scored 16 points. Another player making a difference was Colton Griffiths, who scored six points along with eight rebounds.
New Prairie has traveled a rocky road recently, as they've lost seven of their last eight matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 2-11 record this season. As for South Bend Riley, the victory was the fourth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 14-3.
New Prairie will be playing in front of their home fans against Bremen at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. South Bend Riley's road trip will continue as they head out to face South Bend Clay at 7:30 p.m. on January 18th.
