Wayland and Acton-Boxborough are an even 4-4 against one another since January of 2015, but not for long. The Wayland Warriors will head out on the road to square off against the Acton-Boxborough Colonials at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
Wayland had to hit the road for their first game and sadly it wasn't the result they were hoping for. They took a serious blow against Dover-Sherborn back in December of 2023, falling 45-16.
Meanwhile, Acton-Boxborough had already won four in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 14 points), and they went ahead and made it five on Friday. They took down Westford Academy 62-48. Acton-Boxborough's offense stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most points they've scored all season.
It was another big night for Shannon Patrick, who dropped a double-double on 21 points and 14 rebounds. She has been hot recently, having posted 15 or more points the last five times she's played. Ana Bitencourt was another key contributor, scoring 16 points.
Wayland's defeat dropped their record down to 0-1. As for Acton-Boxborough, their win was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 7-1.
Wayland didn't have too much breathing room in their matchup against Acton-Boxborough in their previous meeting back in December of 2022, but they still walked away with a 68-62 win. Will Wayland repeat their success, or does Acton-Boxborough have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
