The Jeff Davis Yellowjackets suffered their biggest defeat since December 9, 2023 on Friday. They took a serious blow against Fitzgerald, falling 66-23. Jeff Davis was in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 40-20.
Leading Fitzgerald to victory were Journy Scott and Anteneese Nixon. Scott scored 15 points along with six rebounds and five steals, while Nixon scored 16 points along with seven steals. That's the first time this season that Nixon grabbed two or more steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Chariyell Jones, who scored 12 points along with seven rebounds and two steals.
Jeff Davis has traveled a rocky road recently, as they've lost 12 of their last 14 games, which put a noticeable dent in their 3-17 record this season. As for Fitzgerald, their victory was their sixth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 11-8.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Jeff Davis won't have much time to rest: their next match is against Worth County at 2:00 p.m. on January 27th. Hopefully Worth County focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 19 last Tuesday. As for Fitzgerald, they will head out on the road to challenge Wilcox County at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in Georgia (Wilcox County is ranked 121st, while Fitzgerald is ranked 144th).
