Mundelein has gone a perfect 10-0 against Waukegan recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Monday. The Mustangs will look to defend their home field against the Bulldogs at 4:45 p.m. Mundelein's pitching crew has only allowed 3.1 runs per game this season, so Waukegan's hitters will have their work cut out for them.
Mundelein's pitching crew heads into the game hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Saturday. They came out on top against Fremd by a score of 4-0. The Mustangs haven't had any issues with the Vikings recently, as the game was their eighth consecutive victory against them.
Baris Brua tossed a big game, not allowing a single earned run over five innings pitched. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in three consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Johnny Weiss, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with two runs and one stolen base. Another player making a difference was Caden Earing, who got on base in all three of his plate appearances with one RBI.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Waukegan). They put the hurt on Lake Forest Academy with a sharp 10-0 win on Friday. The high-scoring effort was just what the Bulldogs needed considering they were shut out in their previous match.
Jose Mendoza Jr. made a big impact no matter where he played. On the mound, he didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits over four innings pitched. Mendoza Jr. was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-2 with one stolen base, one run, and one double.
In other batting news, Leo Maione was excellent, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with three runs, one stolen base, and one RBI. Those three runs gave him a new career-high. Brian Perez was another key player, going 1-for-2 with one stolen base, one run, and one double.
Waukegan always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .536. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
Mundelein's victory bumped their record up to 18-6-2. As for Waukegan, their win (their first of the season) made their record 1-16.
Everything went Mundelein's way against Waukegan when the teams last played back in April of 2024, as Mundelein made off with an 11-0 victory. Do the Mustangs have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Bulldogs turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
