If the Claiborne Academy Rebels were feeling good off their 57-2 takedown of the Northeast Baptist Knights last Friday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. Claiborne Academy was just a bucket shy of victory on Tuesday and fell 41-40 to the Rebels. The result was an unpleasant reminder to Claiborne Academy of the 40-39 loss they experienced in the two teams' previous head-to-head fixture last Monday.
Despite the loss, Claiborne Academy saw an underclassman step up: Mattie Nowery scored nine points.
Claiborne Academy's defeat dropped their record down to 8-10. As for Briarfield Academy, they have been performing well recently as they've won seven of their last nine games, which provided a nice bump to their 17-6 record this season.
Claiborne Academy will look to defend their home court on Thursday against the Lions at 5:00 p.m. Union Christian Academy is no doubt hoping to put an end to a four-game streak of away losses. As for Briarfield Academy, they will head out on the road to square off against the Pioneers at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. Central School is coming into the contest on a three-game losing streak.
