The Marshall Owls's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Wednesday after their third straight defeat. They were outmatched by Linn on the road and fell 64-36. While losing is never fun, Marshall can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Missouri basketball rankings (they are ranked 400th, while Linn is ranked 182nd).
When it comes to explaining why Marshall lost, one person who can't be blamed is Brooklynn Davenport. Despite the final result, she scored ten points. Katarina Simic was another key contributor, scoring nine points.
Marshall struggled to get the ball back on offense and finished the game with only two offensive rebounds. They were crushed by their opponents in that department as Linn pulled down ten offensive rebounds.
Kiana Hostetler continued her habit of posting crazy stat lines for Linn, scoring 21 points along with seven assists and four steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Hostetler has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Vivien Baker, who scored seven points along with five rebounds and three steals.
Marshall has traveled a rocky road recently having lost nine of their last ten matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 2-14 record this season. As for Linn, the win got them back to even at 8-8.
Marshall and Hallsville will face off on January 26th without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. Marshall is facing Hallsville at the right time seeing as Hallsville is stuck on a six-game losing streak. Linn will be staying on the road on Saturday to face off against Fulton at 12:00 p.m. on January 27th. Hopefully Linn focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 15 on Wednesday.
